It's easy to tell which products are cruelty free in the supermarket, most of the time it's printed on the packet but for makeup products it's not that simple! It's hard to tell which brand and products are cruelty free and with the interest and demand of cruelty free beauty rising I decided to dig into my makeup drawers and do some research of which UK budget brands are cruelty free.

Cruelty free makeup are products that are not tested on animals at all, not whilst making the makeup product (during the production stages) or the final product itself.
The Superdrug website have broken down what cruelty free and vegan makeup is and the difference between the two here. The website also points out things we should look out for researching if a brand is cruelty free or not, lots of brands have clever ways to word their statements to make it seem like they are when they are not! I get all my cruelty free/vegan information from Superdrug website, I highly recommend it as it is incredibly informative and no fancy jargon!
Now onto the makeup, let's start with base.

Although you see a Mac pot inside is the The Ordinary Coverage Foundation. This foundation gives great coverage, I use a few drops and it covers my uneven skin tone and inperfections. It has a thin consistency so it is easy to blend out and build if you want extra coverage. It lasts great too, it doesn't fade or get cakey as the day goes by, a great foundation for £5.95.

Next up is concealer. The L.A Girl Pro Conceal HD concealer is a great full coverage product for only £5. A little goes a long way, one layer covers my dark under eyes, pigmentation around my mouth and any blemishes. Although it is full coverage it doesn't feel heavy at all, the creamy texture feels lightweight under the eyes and on the skin.

For bronzer my go-to has been the MUA bronzer. It is the perfect not too dark not too light colour, it gives a natural bronze colour to the cheek without making me look orange. It's finely milled so the powder blends with no fuss. For £1 you can't go wrong.

I have been going more coral for my blush recently and Nip and Fab's travel palette in the shade light/medium has a gorgeous coral pink blush. It look scary in the pan but it gives a fresh pop of colour to the cheek, it makes me look quite perky and fresh actually! The bronzer and highlight are gorgeous too, pigmented and super buttery powders.

For contour and highlight I have two products from the Revolution Beauty company, which all the brands that fall under their umbrella are cruelty free.
Makeup Obession's contour powder in C102 light is the perfect shade for fair skin tones or if you are after a natural contour shade. It's a taupe shade, again not too warm that it looks like a bronzer but not too cool toned it looks grey. It's a subtle colour, perfect for heavy handed people or if you aren't great at contour like me!
For liquid highlight I have the Makeup Revolution liquid highlighter in the shade champagne. This is an intense highlight that leaves you beaming, it almost look metalic on the skin. It's easy to use, I have used it with a beauty sponge, brushes and my fingers and it seems to blend into my skin with no fuss. The highlighter also comes in a range of shades including bronze, gold and rose gold for £6.

For a cream alternative the Sleek Highlighting kit is a gem. 4 highlighting shades that are super creamy, I have had my palette for around two years and it still hasn't dried out (please don't tell anybody!). They blend very well, they really melt into the skin for that lit within glow. The shades range from 'natural dewy glow to boom highlight so it has a good variety of highlighters to choose from.

A eyeshadow quad I have been loving for the colder months is the Nyx Full Throttle quad in 'colour riot'. Four super autumnal shades, the burnt orange and burgundy purple are my go-to colours. These eyeshadows are great quality, they are super pigmented and are true to colour on the eyes.

On my eyebrows I use the Primark Brow Pencil. Primark makeup is cheap as chips aswell as good quality. This brow pencil is creamy, not hard and stiff like other pencils can be. It is easy to use, blends out well too. They have other shades including blonde and brown too!

Recently I have been enjoying a brown eyeliner, I'm enjoying the Natural Collection eyeliner in 'soft brown'. This is a good quality eyeliner, it's ultra creamy and glides onto the eyes. The pigmentation is impressive too, the shade is a gorgeous rich brown that shows up true to the colour on the eyes.

For inside my eyes I use the Essence Extreme Lasting eye pencil in 'silky nude'. This pencil is just that, a long lasting pencil that does not smudge or transfer as the hours go by. For a nude eyeliner this has powerful colour pay off, the shade really brightens up the eyes and makes me look more awake. For £2.50 it is a must have!

My go-to lip combo has been the Elf Matte Lip Colour in 'Praline' and Barry M's lip pencil is shade 15. The Barry M lip pencil is a my lips but better shade, a gorgeous mauvy pink. I use that to line my lips and fill in it with the browny pink Praline. The Elf matte lip colour is creamy to apply but dries down to a semi matte, it super comfortable to wear and goes with so many different makeup looks.

To set everything I have been loving the Nyx Dewy Setting Spray, it has been the only spray I have been using. It really locks in my makeup, making my makeup last for hours without fading or smudging. It also leaves a lovely glow behind and gets rid of any powderyness which is also a bonus!
I am surprised with how many products that are sitting in my drawer are cruelty free. Cruelty free makeup isn't advertised as much as other products such as food but with a little research I have found out so much information!
Are there any budget cruelty free brands that I am not aware of? If so drop me a comment!
